چکیده

Ž . Single-walled carbon nanotubes SWNTs have been synthesized at milligram per hour rates by the catalytic decomposition of both carbon monoxide and ethylene over a supported metal catalyst known to produce larger multiwalled nanotubes. Under certain conditions, there is no termination of nanotube growth, and production appears to be limited only by the diffusion of reactant gas through the product nanotube mat that covers the catalyst. Further development of the catalyst geometry to overcome the diffusion limitation may allow bulk catalytic production of SWNTs by supported metal catalysts. q 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. Vertically Aligned Carpet of Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes Catalytically Grown from Alcohol

Recent developments of catalytic CVD generation of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) by using alcohol as the carbon source are discussed. High-purity SWNTs can be generated at relatively low CVD temperatures from metal catalytic particles supported on zeolite [1, 2] (Fig. 1) or directly dispersed on flat substrates such as meso-porous silica [3], quartz and silicon [4, 5, 6]. Fig. 1 (a) is...

A multiscale approach for modeling the early stage growth of single and multiwall carbon nanotubes produced by a metal-catalyzed synthesis process.

A parametrized mesoscale model for the early stage growth of isolated single or multiwall carbon nanotubes (CNTs) has been developed in order to investigate the effects of metal catalyst particle size and composition on CNT growth mechanism during synthesis via a substrate-supported, catalytic chemical vapor deposition process. The model is based on a coarse-grained graphene sheet, represented ...

Thermal physics in carbon nanotube growth kinetics.

The growth of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) mediated by metal nanoparticles is considered within (i) the surface diffusion growth kinetics model coupled with (ii) a thermal model taking into account heat release of carbon adsorption-desorption on nanotube surface and carbon incorporation into the nanotube wall and (iii) carbon nanotube-inert gas collisional heat exchange. Numerical simul...

In situ nucleation of carbon nanotubes by the injection of carbon atoms into metal particles.

The synthesis of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) of desired chiralities and diameters is one of the most important challenges in nanotube science and achieving such selectivity may require a detailed understanding of their growth mechanism. We report the formation of CNTs in an entirely condensed phase process that allows us, for the first time, to monitor the nucleation of a nanotube on the spherical ...

Effects of Confinement in Carbon Nanotubes on the Performance and Lifetime of Fischer-Tropsch Iron Nano Catalysts

The effects of confinement in carbon nanotubes on Fischer-Tropsch (FT) activity, selectivity and lifetime of Carbon NanoTubes (CNTs) supported iron catalysts are reported. A method was developed to control the position of the catalytic sites on either inner or outer surface of carbon nanotubes. TEM analyses revealed that more than 80% of iron oxide particles can be controlled to be position...
